a bit of musik geekery

So i've been sitting on this for a while but i've snagged a copy at last and now i understand everything.  all the talk from last year.  this is mad shit.

the beatles's white album + jay-z's black album = the grey album.

mash-up maestro Danger Mouse reimagines Hova's final opus, culling beats out of the Beatles's most creatively-expansive moment.  danger rips apart Helter Skelter and wraps its remains around 99 Problems.  he finds the hip-hop in fuckin' Mother Nature's Son and remakes Dirt Off Your Shoulder.  he flips around the Hollywood glam of Change Clothes by shedding its Neptunes beat in exchange for the organ line of the anti-excess anthem Piggies.  sound like it's all a cute gimmick?  if nobody knew who the beatles were, danger mouse would be dj shadow; his production is spot-on.

---------------

something else that can't be ignored: Crimes by Blood Brothers.  think the Pixies and Vaselines gone hardcore punk, or the hellspawn of Karen O and Bugs Bunny re-forming The Icarus Line.  ok, so that description doesn't really help.  but just peep these ridiculous titles: Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck, Trash Flavored Trash, My First Kiss At The Public Execution.  and my favorite: Rats and Rats and Rats for Candy. anyway there's no time for debate; we're in a state of emergency. this is music to shake the sheets to.

read about this at Time.
Gorillaz turned to Danger Mouse to produce their album instead of Dan the Automator (half of handsome boy modeling school). different approach naman daw.

note to self: download the grey album.

ridiculous song titles=coolness overkill
parang yung album ni gwen stefani, it's a starfucked advertisement for LAMB, stefani's high-end clothing line.

yes, yung difference lang e gwen stefani's album is bad while the blood brothers' is good. hehe. pero gusto ko yung neptunes beat ng hollaback girl, panget lng kasi ng delivery nya kaya nasira.

meron akong white people ng handsome boy modeling school, ok naman production niya with prince paul. medyo malabo lang yung ibang mga collabo: merong mike shinoda and yung blonde singer from linkin park na naka-glasses, jack johnson (the whitest man on earth after dave matthews), jaime cullum, tsaka fuckin' hall and oates. pero andun din naman ang mars volta, cat power, de la soul, el-p, alex kapranos and other ok people.

wow. i could just imagine those collabos. mars volta?? well, they'd try ANYthing, given the fact when you listen to any their songs, after 5 freakin minutes, you're completely lost figuring out if you're still listening to the same damn song. ugh. sometimes i cannot comprehend their beautiful chaos. well, who does?

yeah man, hall and fuckin' oates.

kibitzer: tangina i was completely blown away by obstacle 1.
She puts the weights into my little heart,
And she gets in my room and she takes it apart.
She puts the weights into my little heart,
I said she puts the weights into my little heart.

i practically wept after hearing this. whew.
